Company Background SENSE WORLD MUSIC will be a relatively new record company name for some, however personnel from Sense have been involved in the music business for many years in a wide range of capacities. In 1976, the founders of the label established its first music retail outlet in Leicester selling a wide range of Indian music. In 1984, due to the success of this venture the management decided to create its own label, Sursagar. This new operation had as its main mission to cover the needs of ethnic Indian music around the world from Canada to Europe and for this purpose the company built its first recording studio in India, ensuring high quality standards for the products. Sursagar focussed specifically on the music of Gujarat in the Northwest of India and the new studio gave the opportunity to produce exclusive albums of the traditional folk and devotional music of the region. Furthermore, the co-operation between Sursagar and established Indian companies allowed world-wide distribution of thousands of products. Sursagar continues to trade successfully in this specialist market. In 1996, with the development of Sense World Music, the musical focus has changed. Sense World Music Mission We set up Sense World Music in order to bring together the many great talents from the global music community. Initially the company is concentrating on the rich heritage of Indian classical music but we are also venturing into more diverse areas such as the powerful Sufi influenced music of Rajastan to the eclectic area of World Dance Fusion. Our philosophy at Sense is simple- produce the highest quality product with deep artistic consideration. Production Our purpose built studios near Anand in North India, is called Virtual Studios and is the first of its kind in India. We have extensive facilities covering the needs of many different professional, high quality production approaches. The studio design has been an integral part of the creative inspiration of the many artists who have recorded with us from around the world. Built within a wonderful natural environment, the studio is like a small ''paradise'' in the rural countryside of India. It is a unique place for maintaining and developing the connection between nature, our musical and spiritual roots, and the end product- the realisation of high quality musical performance and production standards. We use state of the art equipment and also have a high quality, mobile multi-track location facility both in India and the U.K. which are used at various live concerts and festivals. All recordings released by Sense are mixed and mastered in the U.K. thus maintaining full control of the production from planning stage to finished product.
